🧘 First-Time Students Page — YogaShine
Your First Class at YogaShine
Not sure what to expect? That's exactly why this page exists.
Walking into a new yoga studio for the first time takes courage — we know that. So here's everything you need to feel confident and ready before you arrive.
Is YogaShine right for me?
Yes, if you're a complete beginner. You don't need to be flexible, fit, or have ever tried yoga before. Iyengar yoga is taught in a way that starts where you are — not where you think you should be. Props like blocks, straps, and blankets aren't a shortcut; they're part of the method, and they make the practice accessible to every body.
Yes, if you've been practising for years. The Iyengar method is known for its precision and depth. If you're ready to understand why each pose works, not just how to get into it, you'll find plenty to explore here.
What should I bring?
Yourself — that's the most important thing
Comfortable, form-fitting clothing you can move in (leggings and a fitted top work well — loose clothes make it harder for the teacher to see your alignment)
An open mind
You don't need to bring a mat or any props. The studio provides everything you need. If you fall in love with the practice and want your own mat, we can point you in the right direction.
What should I do before my first class?
Book your spot — classes are small, so we recommend booking in advance
Arrive 10 minutes early so you have time to settle in, meet Liesel, and mention anything relevant (injuries, health conditions, nervousness — all welcome)
Don't eat a heavy meal in the 2 hours beforehand
Let go of expectations — wherever you are is the right place to start
Still have questions?
Get in touch — Liesel is happy to have a quick chat before you commit to a class. There's no pressure, no sales pitch, just a conversation about whether YogaShine is a good fit for you.
